Dear Mr. Henshaw

Reader- response:
For those about to read the book Dear Mr. Henshaw, I would briefly inform them that they will enjoy the story. It is a relatable story for all ages and everyday life. Leigh Botts uses his journal entries to portray his life’s struggles dealing with his parents’ divorce. It’s a quick read but an excellent read! This book is a good book for all ages including parents and guardians.
Although my family did not go through a divorce, I had friends who did. I can remember reading this book as kid in school. It definitely opened up my eyes to what some of my classmates were going through when their parents were getting a divorce and remarrying or barely ever seeing one of the parental units. Leigh Bott’s journal entries were extremely relatable. Liegh’s journal entries brought his confused thoughts and question’s to a head. I think one of the best things done in the story was to date the journal entries. It gives the story a more realistic feel. You can tell how he is feeling at different times throughout the story.

One of the most relatable parts in the story to my life was the part with the butterflies. Sometimes in order for me to clear my head, I need to go for a walk outside. There is something very relaxing and calming. Add butterflies and I am in heaven!
